[Song of Solomon 1:1-4] The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s. May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine. Your oils have a pleasing fragrance, your name is like purified oil; therefore the maidens love you. Draw me after you and let us run together! The king has brought me into his chambers.
There are pleasure senses human bodies enjoy, but in the animal kingdom these senses are quite different. A testosterone charged male seeks a receptive female to release the built-up pressure. Females seem hesitant and are not easily persuaded. A male must prove its worthiness by combat and then defeat of any opponent claiming mating rights. Something happens and almost as if by an unspoken law a female submits to the dominant male’s advances.
We also find these characteristics in humans. A public persona, artist, singer or smartly dressed speaker excites some females and it seems to “mess up” their psychological wiring. When the music group Beatles toured America this phenomenon puzzled most. What causes this release of emotions and almost crazy abandonment can only be explained in terms of pleasure deprivation and release. We can assume that the hormonal balance has been disturbed by suppression. A square puritan society imposes many restrictions on a society and in religious terms it defines morality.
The author of the Song of Solomon seems to be quite free in expressing sensuality and the inner desires. The form is poetic and yes, it is put into a melody; hence a song. It seems that the desire to express these feelings has been limited only to love songs. And whoever champions these expressions conquers females, just as it is in the animal world.
Most likely the prophet Ezekiel was also a singer and sort of an artist.
[Ezekiel 33:31-33] They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their gain. Behold, you are to them like a sensual song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument; for they hear your words but they do not practice them. So when it comes to pass–as surely it will–then they will know that a prophet has been in their midst.
Instead of hearing God through the prophet they watched his moves. When Jesus started his ministry in His hometown Nazareth it is written this way, [Luke 4:22] And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Right after Jesus quoted Isaiah 61:1-3 He said that ‘these words have been fulfilled in their ears.’ But they did not pay attention to that… and Jesus wondered. So He responded with these words, “No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself!’” Jesus did not give them any satisfaction, for He did not want them feel just the bodily pleasures, but rather that they might be spiritually quickened by His words.
Besides Jesus being a young handsome man women were falling for, His job was not to fall for this sensual trap. He knew other pleasures no one knew.
The moment the crowd felt deprived of what they wanted they turned on the young man. It is written that And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things; [28-29] and they got up and drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff.
I know this first hand and can explain the inner entrapping of the human psyche, provided, I am allowed to even speak about it. At the men seminar I was able to touch on this, but we have never gotten to having women’s seminar; so I could not address it.
The play between spirituality and sensuality stretches lines, realms or spheres. We really do not have words to express these states. Elation, exaltation, lust, imagination… all are intertwined and dancing the tango… I suppose.
[Psalms 16:11] You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
There are sexual pleasures, and there are spiritual pleasures, both are part of the human institution. There are spiritual pleasures, which are unmatched by any other kind. The problem is that we have evolved only in the physical direction and lost the primordial spiritual pleasures. Today we derive pleasure from sharing, public address, musical performance, or any display of art as well as appreciating those forms of art. Both, the giver and the receiver derive enjoyment and pleasure. After all, that is the reason why we do what we do.
Because we have overemphasized these typical human emotions all other pleasures took the second seat. We should rediscover those lost pleasures, but the task can be tedious and lengthy. First, it all comes down to the spiritual awaking of our intellect.
The brain moving neurons forgot how to process spiritual knowledge, but once those neurons start to work the spiritual pleasure begins, but merely begins. There is more. For just as there is the bodily sexual climax, which then ends, in the spiritual pleasure it remains in the state of ecstasy; and even that can be too much for someone who is married. Why? – Because the spouse wants it too, but unfortunately for the spouse, it is personal and it cannot be shared or transferred.
Yes, the spiritual climax does not end; it continues indefinitely, for indeed it is infinite. It does not take your sleep away, it has a calming affect, and yet it is exiting, but not physically. The original life’s vibration keeps on going for it enfolds new regions yet unexplored, and endlessly so.
I speak from experience, which has not stopped since 1988 when I entered the spiritual realm of God by cleaning of my ancestral family tree. This cleansing is the biblical repentance. I was privileged to experience it in the most profound way. Now 26 years later I keep on flying high on the wings of God’s wonderful grace. I have not come down from this cloud but keep on climbing.
